Habitat, since 1964, has been challenging the way we perceive the space in which we live and transforming it, combining inspiration and creation.
On May 11, 1964, Terence Conran, a young furniture and interior designer with a vision, opens the first store in London. His ambition was to modernize the heavy, dark furniture of the older generation, proposing a contemporary design at affordable prices.
From the beginning, habitat became synonymous with style and brought new trends, while it soon gained fanatical celebrity friends such as Twiggy, Peter Sheller, etc. In 1964, the first Habitat catalog was created, which quickly established itself as a reference point for interior design, giving readers suggestions and decorating ideas for their home, long before decoration magazines developed in the 1990s.
Habitat created a revolutionary concept, offering the "new modernists" a democratic ideal of contemporary design at affordable prices. Shopping as entertainment, furniture and original home accessories from around the world, mixed with the love of home, the joy of using colors, food, art and all the beautiful things in life – Habitat created what we today call Lifestyle.
